Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib has alleged that all the claims of his supposedly mass wealth made in the divorce proceeding is a political conspiracy by opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and others.
The former Sarawak chief minister’s son named whitstleblower website Sarawak Report founder Claire Rewcastle-Brown, Swiss-based NGO Bruno Manser Fund, his former wife Shahnaz Abdul Majid, her lawyers among those part of the political conspiracy to attack him and his father Abdul Taib Mahmud over allegations of corrupt practice. He also accused Canadian couple Cullen Johnson and Elaine White, of being involved in the conspiracy by providing forged and false documents allegedly of Bekir’s assets.
“What was supposed to be a private matter in divorce maintenance claims before the courts was blown up into a global attack and slander to change the political landscape of Sarawak,” Bekir said.
Abu Bekir claims that his wealth is exaggerated and that he only has a “few millions” instead of the hundreds of millions, indeed billions, claimed by his wife.
Well, a few millions is certainly enough to take the matter of this supposed “political conspiracy” against him to court.
He is shelling out plenty on the on-going divorce case as it is, without visibly dipping into say his luxury car collection or thousands of CMS shares.
If Abu Bekir Taib thinks that the reports about his wealth and that of his family and father in Sarawak Report have been untrue and malicious, rather than genuine, he should hire a London lawyer too and get on with arguing the matter in front of a British jury.
